Position Summary

The Billing Specialist's primary duties are to support the Business Manager and to provide professional business management services, including preparing funder billing reports with supporting documentation, preparing cost reports, Drug Medi-Cal billing, compliance reviews, assisting with development of annual facility budget and individual program budgets, and other finance activities.

Essential Functions



  • Prepare and process check request for Client Savings Account
  • Coordinate with Business Specialist to withdraw checks from safe.
  • Prepare, process, and deposit Client Checks to Bank
  • Process DMC billing
  • Coordinate with Business specialist to ensure all fiscal components of DMC adhere to contract requirements.
  • Maintain daily schedules to support DMC billing.
  • Monthly review of DMC billing with Business Manager and Program Manager
  • Coordinate with DMC program to ensure client service hours are met as required.
  • Maintain staff time and activity reports.
  • Ad-hoc projects and other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and Executive Director


RATE OF PAY: $25-28/hr.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in business related field. Strong nonprofit accounting experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Non-Profit Accounting experience required.
  • Understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to employment.
  • Must be TB-cleared prior to hire.
  • Previous experience with DMC grant will be an added advantage.


Skills, Knowledge & Abilities



  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and ability to type 45 wpm. Basic math skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with computerized ledger systems.
  • Meet deadlines, work with attention to detail.
  • Ability to function well in a team-oriented environment.
