The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Systems and Endpoint Support Technologist.

About the Opportunity

The (Hybrid) Systems and Endpoint Support Technologist supports the Eberly College's academic and research missions by providing technical expertise in both systems administration and desktop support. This position assists with the management of Linux and Windows servers, supports security operations, and helps ensure compliance with institutional IT standards. It also delivers frontline desktop support and manages the deployment of secure, reliable computing environments using tools such as SCCM, Azure, and Jamf.

What You'll Do



  • Support the Eberly College's server infrastructure and information security operations. Responsibilities include:

    • Support server infrastructure and information security operations for the Eberly College.
    • Assist with administration of Linux and Windows servers in both on-premises and cloud environments.
    • Provide support for Linux-based desktop systems used in research settings.
    • Perform routine system maintenance including applying patches and updates and monitoring system performance.
    • Create and manage license servers for departmental software.
    • Use WVU's NetVuln tool to identify system vulnerabilities and remediate.
    • Collaborate with the lead system administrator to remediate critical security issues promptly.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation.
    • Verify backups and review system logs regularly.
    • Inventory and track physical and virtual server assets.
    • Decommission servers in accordance with university policies, including secure data sanitization and preparing equipment for surplus or retirement. Provide desktop support to faculty, staff, and students across the College.


  • Provide desktop support to faculty, staff, and students in assigned departments across the College.

    • Securely deploy and configure desktop systems in compliance with WVU ITS Information Security Services standards.
    • Use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Azure, and Jamf Pro to manage Windows and Mac environments.
    • Deploy software and apply operating system updates using management tools.
    • Assist remote users with technical issues and support needs.
    • Document support procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
    • Perform hardware diagnostics and repairs; coordinate with vendors for complex or warranty-covered issues.
    • Support specialized research devices and instructional peripherals.
    • Decommission desktop systems, securely sanitize data, and prepare equipment for surplus or retirement per university IT and data security policies.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Degrees in Computer Science, Network Administration, Information Systems or Information Technology preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of IT support experience involving:

    • Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
    • Experience with desktop management tools such as SCCM, Jamf Pro, or equivalent platforms
    • Experience providing end-user support in a desktop support or systems administration role
    • Exposure to managing or assisting with server infrastructure, cloud environments, or license servers (can include certifications)


  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Skills



  • Proficiency in administering and supporting Windows and Linux operating systems in both server and desktop environments.
  • Experience using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Jamf Pro for desktop deployment and management.
  • Understanding of information security principles and ability to follow established procedures for system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Ability to perform hardware diagnostics and repairs on desktop and laptop systems.
  • Knowledge of software deployment processes, including packaging and distributing applications via management tools.
  • Strong documentation skills to record system configurations, procedures, and support resolutions.
  • Experience supporting peripherals and specialized equipment used in research and instruction.


Communication Skills



  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with faculty, staff, and other IT professionals in resolving issues and implementing solutions.
  • Capable of documenting procedures and support resolutions in a clear, organized, and accessible manner.
  • Professional and responsive customer service skills to support a diverse academic community in a courteous and effective manner.
