Georgia-Pacific is recruiting for a Utilities Operating Technician in New Augusta, MS. The Utility Operating Technician is responsible for safely operating high pressure steam boilers, turbine-generators, and evaporators to ensure the safe production of specialty and market fluff pulp. This position works a 12-hour rotating shift and the starting pay is $27.46 per hour.

What You Will Do

  • Monitoring process variables to maintain efficient process operations and meet department quality, cost and production goals
  • Collecting and analyzing samples of hazardous process chemicals to ensure product quality targets are met
  • Performing equipment cleanup and operator basic care including minor maintenance tasks
  • Performing railcar and tanker truck loading and unloading operations for hazardous materials produced or consumed in the process
  • Monitoring and entering confined spaces to perform inspections
  • Participating on mill fire brigade and HAZMAT teams

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a heavy industrial/manufacturing plant environment (pulp and paper, oil & gas, power generation, etc.) OR Two (2) year technical degree.
  • Experience with computer programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a heavy industrial/manufacturing plant environment
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, technology or related technical field of study
  • Pulp & paper plant operations experience
  • Power generation or Utilities plant experience
  • Chemical process safety experience
