Receiving Specialists are responsible for ensuring that incoming parts and materials meet customer requirements and match purchase orders and the packing lists provided with the delivery. Specialists enter inventory receipt records into the ERP system promptly and accurately, and moves the inventory into storage or out to the production floor. This role requires a mix of hands-on receiving activity with sometimes complex data entry to facilitate accurate inventory management and timely production.
Essential Functions

- Physically receives incoming goods; may unload trucks and unpack containers, cartons, or pallets promptly upon arrival
- Receives returns and RMA products; follows established procedures for documentation and handling of returned items
- Operates forklift and other material handling equipment to unload trucks and trailers and move or store materials
- Visually verifies characteristics, quantity, weight, and conformance of materials to stated requirements and quantities and units of measure as specified on the purchase order; writes legibly on receiving documents to record receipt information
- Maintains organization of goods based on receipt order, inspection status, and prioritization of needs; follows established procedures, setting appropriate priorities on items that are urgently needed on the shop floor
- Promptly, and with a high degree of accuracy, enters receiving data in ERP system to make materials digitally available for planning and manufacturing operations
- May perform inspections on incoming parts per purchase order requirements, or coordinate with quality personnel to confirm inspections are completed before data entry is completed or materials are stored or delivered to the shop floor; may initiate non-conforming reports or coordinate with receiving inspection personnel if goods do not meet specifications
- Maintains a neat, clean, and orderly work area and follows established processes and safe work practices
- Communicates effectively and professionally with internal and external personnel
- May prepare materials for storage or shipment, may load trucks or perform other shipping & receiving duties as time permits
- Performs other duties as required
- Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required
Required Education and Work Experience
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- At least one year of experience in shipping/receiving or complex data numerical data entry is preferred; aerospace or other machined parts manufacturing experience would be advantageous
- Forklift driving experience is preferred
- Experience in accurate use of precision measurement devices (mics, calipers, height gauges, tape measure, etc.) is advantageous
Other Required Skills and Abilities
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and convert fractions to decimal equivalents)
- Demonstrated proficiency and high degree of accuracy in highly detailed alphanumeric data entry
- Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams/SharePoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English); legible handwriting is essential
- Efficient organizational and record-keeping skills
- Cooperative, collaborative, professional interpersonal skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment
To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including all buildings and the manufacturing areas
- Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds
- Regularly climb steps, stairs, or ladders, and extend leg(s) to climb on/off forklifts
- Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
- Constantly communicate verbally and in writing (English)
- Visual acuity to accurately read mics, calipers, or other precision measuring instruments; accurately distinguish colors
- Use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards, peripherals, and measurement instruments, and to manually examine parts
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:
- Excessive noise -hearing protection required (occasionally)
- Dust, smoke, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
- Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment
The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and use of safety footwear may be required.
