The focus of the research is performing isolation, purification and identification of primary human placental trophoblast cells using laser capture microdissection. The incumbent will isolate DNA, RNA and protein from the dissected trophoblast cells for genomic, epigenomic, and proteomic studies. Preparation of samples for global proteomic analyses by mass spectrometry is another important aspect of the job. The incumbent will be trained under the direction of senior scientists for cytotrophoblast cell isolation, placental tissue preservation, tissue sectioning, immuno-staining, laser capture microdissection, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, and protein extraction. As the incumbent learns these experiments and is able to repeat the experiments successfully, the supervisors will delegate responsibilities and a project to the incumbent. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting the research progress every 3 months.
