Job Description:

  • Develop and lead the strategy to build out the distribution system using CYME, GIS, and demand forecasting tools. Participate in the develop of geo-referenced load forecasts to support probabilistic load modeling efforts at the distribution level.
  • Lead distribution system analysis including seasonal assessments analyzing voltage, thermal, and N-1 contingency reviews using the CYME software or available data sets. Perform power flow analysis and/or capacity reviews to identify potential system needs relative to distribution criteria and define mitigation projects for short, mid, and long-term system planning.
  • Conduct other system analysis studies as required to improve system efficiency, system reliability and quality of service to customers. Studies may include but are not limited to transformer loading, voltage drops, fault currents, line feasibility, sectionalizing and load balance.
  • Develop and prepare project documentation (i.e. need statement, potential solution, one-line diagrams, etc.) leveraging the results from system analysis to develop the short, mid, and long-term system plans. Future plans will be entered in Copperleaf for capital planning.
  • Analyze and assess complex DER distribution system interconnections and new customer load interconnections to the distribution system.
  • Coordinate distribution project development and integration activities with the Transmission Planning, Performance & Reliability, Investment & Project Planning, Standards, Engineering, Field Operations, System Operations, and Customer Service.
  • Develop thorough understanding and application of distribution planning tools used in such as GIS, CYME, LoadSEER, SCADA/Pi, Copperleaf, etc.
  • Develop training materials for software applications and onboarding for Distribution modeling and analysis functions.
  • Meet with internal and external customers to discuss short, mid, and long-term system plans.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university required, preferably with an emphasis in power systems.
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Pursuit of Professional Engineer (P.E.) license also preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of distribution planning or similar experience with an understanding of power flow modeling preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to effectively supervise and direct the work of assigned personnel, external employees, and the ability to effectively and professionally deal with coworkers and customers is required.

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as reliability, load flow, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, losses, etc.
  • Experience with power system transmission analysis tools such as CYME, Synergi, GIS, LoadSEER, or other similar analysis software.
