Position Summary |
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.
The Information Technology department is seeking an IT Project Manager to drive the full lifecycle of IT projects from initiation to closeout. This includes developing project charters to define scope, objectives and stakeholder roles, creating detailed project schedules tied to milestones and tracking progress against those timelines. The role also covers managing project documentation, coordinating outputs with technical teams and ensuring seamless communication with internal and external partners and collaborators. As projects move toward completion, the Project Manager will lead closeout activities, capturing lessons learned and finalizing outputs including run books.
This role reports to the Senior Manager of Product and Planning and is a part of IT's Product and Planning team.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and support IT projects and efforts as assigned.
- Develop meeting agendas, schedule and facilitate project meetings, take minutes and follow up on action items.
- Create and maintain project charters, schedules and other key project documentation.
- Provide regular project updates and status reports.
- Track project tasks assigned to internal teams and external vendors.
- Maintain a schedule that requires availability after-hours for system upgrades, project rollouts and emergencies.
The expected salary range for the Project Manager is $85,000/annual - $100,000/annual. The

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree in information systems, business, computer science, operations or another related field.
- Two years of demonstrated experience managing projects, preferably in a technical environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with IT systems and project coordination for technology implementations.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
|
Physical Demands |
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
