The Weitz Company is hiring a Human Resources (HR) Specialist to join the Employee Experience team. As a key member of our Employee Experience team, the HR Specialist plays an important role ensuring employees have a seamless onboarding experience, will help maintain compliance requirements, support employee enhancement initiatives and provide responsive HR support to employees across the organization.

What You'll Do:



  • Coordinate new hire onboarding for salaried employees and interns, including desk setup, first-day training, new hire gifts and overall experience; partner with hiring managers, HR team members and various stakeholders to create onboarding schedules, as requested
  • Coordinate and support employee engagement initiatives, training programs, performance review cycles, and other routine employee programs
  • Facilitate the offboarding process, to include coordination of separation logistics and conducting exit interviews to gather employee sentiments
  • Maintain accurate personnel records and HRIS data
  • Coordinate unemployment claims and E-Verify processes, ensuring deadlines are met, systems are maintained, relevant training is provided, and updates are communicated promptly
  • Conduct internal-driven audits alongside HR management
  • Facilitate employee relocations by collaborating with Human Resources, project teams, traveling employees, and the company relocation vendor; create and issue transfer memo to ensure seamless transition for the employee and other internal departments


  • Stay informed on relative employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance; communicate with stakeholders as necessary



What We're Looking For:



  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered


  • Experience:

    • 2+ years of experience working in a human resources or related office-based role
    • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR practices is a plus


  • Skills:

    • Extremely organized and comfortable multi-tasking
    • Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
    • Strong attention to detail
    • High level of professionalism and tact
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Desire to provide quality work in a timely manner
    • High level of confidentiality


  • Technology:

    • Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Work, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire


  • Additional Requirements:

    • Must be located in the Des Moines, IA area or relocating prior to starting (no relocation assistance provided)
