I. JOB OVERVIEW


Job Description Summary:
The Division for Student Affairs cultivates an inclusive community that supports connection, growth, and well-being for every student throughout their GW journey. The Student Involvement team is committed to leadership, community, advising and departmental excellence. We strive to serve not only our students, but also each other as colleagues. Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost, Student Affairs the Assistant Director, Student Involvement and Leadership job duties are as follows:

  • Leads the development, assessment, and implementation of programs and initiatives related to leadership development, community building and student organization involvement.
  • Envisions and manages comprehensive strategy for undergraduate leadership development programs. Evaluates current offerings and propose new initiatives to fit the needs of the current GW student community.
  • Provides oversight of GW's 500+ student organizations, including policies, resources, officer training, and advising. Train and support staff and faculty advisors. Directly advise a portfolio of student organizations.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships within and outside the university to enhance the student experience to ensure the execution of innovative and creative programs targeted to a diverse student population.
  • Oversees policy development and enforcement to ensure compliance with national and university standards.
  • Leads communication efforts to and about populations served, including long-term strategic communication, marketing efforts, and active involvement in leadership programs and student organizations.
  • Researches and engages in learning opportunities that track national trends and enhance knowledge surrounding student programs.
  • Prepares and tracks budgets and conducts other record maintenance as needed.
  • Oversee the management and optimization of the Anthology Engage student organization management platform, including system configuration, user access, and overall functionality to support organization management, event tracking, and re-registration processes; provide training and support to student leaders, advisors, and campus partners to ensure effective usage, data accuracy, and integrations.
  • Serves as a member of the Division for Student Affairs and performs other duties as assigned, including participating in Student Involvement special events and activities, representing Student Involvement at university-wide events and activities, and serving on committees.


The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field is desired.
  • Progressively responsible higher education administration experience to include a at least two years full-time experience within a student affairs department is preferred.
  • Previous experience in the recruitment, selection and supervision of full time, graduate, and student staff is desired.
  • Previous experience with program design, management, implementation, assessment and analysis is preferred.
  • Experience designing, facilitating and overseeing leadership programming. Awareness of relevant leadership development theories and models.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, newsletter software, program marketing, and the use of database software is desired.


Hiring Range $63,661.38 - $92,203.30
