Summary: Provide direct support in the daily warehouse operations and the overall materials process and flow for CenterPoint Energy. This will include, but is not limited to; materials put-away, picking, packing, and related records processing. These tasks will be performed in a safe, expeditious, cost effective, and customer sensitive manner.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Pick material orders, create shipping documents, and carefully pack materials for shipment.
  • Perform put-away of recently received or returned materials in a safe and efficient manner to maintain adequate inventory levels.
  • Transfer materials from secondary locations to primary locations to insure efficient order picking and to prepare for incoming shipments.
  • Clean and organize the warehouse and pipe storage areas to insure a safe and efficient materials distribution function.
  • Conduct material inventories and complete related records to insure the accuracy of material management system records.
  • Provide customer service for over-the-counter transactions and resolve customer problems in a responsive manner consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related tasks as apparent or assigned.
  • Exhibit appropriate professional behavior and model the company values of Integrity, Accountability, Initiative, and Respect. Contribute to an atmosphere of safety, teamwork, and cooperation to maintain an effective working environment as well as continuity of service to our customers.



Education: Requires a minimum of high school diploma or equivalent knowledge of reading, writing, English, mathematics, and grammar.

Experience: Prefer a minimum of two years of experience in materials distribution, or work experience providing equivalent knowledge.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:



  • Able to obtain certification to safely operate a variety of motorized forklifts.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of utility and appliance repair parts and materials
  • Able to demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to quickly comprehend information, interpret and make decisions.
  • Able to prioritize daily workload.
  • Able to learn and use SAP commensurate with the level of training achieved
  • Able to check material for quantity, physical condition, weight capacity, and maintain logs.
  • Able to perform basic mathematics.
  • Able to learn hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company's Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely.
  • Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company's values and business practices and do both consistently.


Physical Requirements:



  • Able to exert in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, maneuver, reach or otherwise move objects or materials.
  • Able to exert routine physical effort on a daily basis.
  • Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Able to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.
  • Able to demonstrate the manual dexterity required to operate a personal computer.



Working Conditions:



  • Able to work in a warehouse and outside pipe yard including ability to tolerate exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Able to work overtime as needed or required to meet established deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Able to respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
