Position Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on and forward-thinking Lead Data Platform Engineer to help drive the development and operationalization of our self-service data platform. This role will be instrumental in enabling business users to access trusted data insights while establishing the technical foundation for our Snowflake-based analytics ecosystem. You will play a key role in modernizing the existing Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) environment. This position provides an opportunity to make a significant impact on our data maturity, directly enabling future analytics, reporting, and AI/ML initiatives across the company.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Management (35%)

  • Refactor and optimize existing complex SQL Server-based data pipelines, identifying and addressing technical debt to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability

  • Design scalable, modular schemas and data models to support future analytics use cases

  • Develop and maintain business-friendly data products including customer data views and product data views

  • Create intuitive interfaces for non-technical users to access and analyze data

  • Implement data cataloging and discovery tools to enhance data accessibility

  • Design and deploy BI best practices and enablement programs

Technical Implementation (25%)

  • Develop and implement robust and efficient data pipelines using modern cloud-native tools and practices

  • Implement data quality monitoring, validation, and alerting systems

  • Contribute to performance tuning and optimization of Snowflake workloads

  • Create reusable data transformation logic and business rules

  • Optimize Snowflake performance for self-service workloads

Stakeholder Collaboration (20%)

  • Partner with data consumers (BI team, business analysts, business application integration teams, and domain leads) to understand data requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions

  • Be a vocal advocate for modernization, helping educate internal stakeholders on data platform capabilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Data Architect and Data Engineers on platform architecture decisions

  • Coordinate with the Data Quality Lead to ensure data reliability

  • Support the Data Enablement Analysts in user training and adoption

Governance & Operations (15%)

  • Establish self-service platform governance frameworks

  • Monitor platform usage and optimize for user experience

  • Maintain documentation and training materials

  • Lead platform vendor relationships and tool evaluations

Innovation & Strategy (5%)

  • Research and implement emerging self-service analytics technologies

  • Contribute to the overall data strategy roadmap

  • Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency gains

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, platform development, analytics infrastructure or related domains

  • Strong expertise in Snowflake data warehouse platform

  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python preferred)

  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Sigma, or similar)

  • Familiarity with data modeling concepts and best practices, especially dimensional modeling

Platform & Business Alignment

  • Comfort in legacy environments while building toward modern architectures

  • Experience translating complex requirements into technical data models or products

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional settings

  • Experience with data catalog and metadata management tools

  • Knowledge of role-based access control and data security

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience migrating from SQL Server to Snowflake

  • Knowledge of dbt (data build tool) or similar transformation frameworks

  • Familiarity with enterprise applications (Salesforce, ERP systems)

  • Experience in SaaS or software industry

  • Understanding of data mesh principles

  • Familiarity with DataOps and MLOps practices

  • Experience with version control and CI/CD for data artifacts

  • Certifications in Snowflake or related technologies

Team Structure

This role reports to the Director of Data Engineering. The initial team includes 4 data engineers, with planned growth.

Compensation Information

The U.S. salary range for this position is $98000.00 - $171500.00. This range is subject to change as Deltek takes a number of factors into consideration when determining individual base pay, such as location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including incentive compensation and equity.
