Basic Function
The Senior Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Manager role is part of the Automation Engineering organization within Global Asset Integrity and Turnaround (GAIT). In this position, you will oversee a global team of corporate Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), providing technical expertise and strategic leadership for the safe and reliable operations of LYB's global manufacturing sites. The SMEs in the Instrumentation and Controls group are based in Houston and Rotterdam.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manages a team of instrument, DCS and SIS engineers in the US and Europe which includes goal setting, work assignments, development and training, career planning, and mentoring.
- Maintains highly effective technical networks for instrumentation and control with the development and execution of strategic goals, sharing of best practices and knowledge transfer.
- Ensures the development, maintenance and implementation of Corporate Engineering Standards and Operational Excellence Standards, Preferred Practices and Guidelines.
- Develops and maintains a multi-year strategy, including capital planning and technology roadmap, for instrumentation and control systems improvements through collaboration with manufacturing sites, Digital Technology, Global Projects and Global Procurement.
- Provide guidance and support to SMEs for the implementation of the Turnaround Excellence protocols and the execution of major turnarounds.
- Provides oversight and technical leadership for the design, maintenance, inspection and testing of instrument and control assets for site and global projects.
- Functions with minimal guidance and successfully manage priorities multiple operations sites and functional areas.
Min. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Typically, a minimum of 15 years of experience in a process plant or a comparable environment is required, including over 5 years of automation engineering experience focusing on instrumentation, instrumented systems or control systems.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in personnel management is required.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills to lead high-level engineers, and organizational levels to develop and implement problem solutions, gather data, drive change and value improvement.
- High trust, integrity and courage to champion corporate policies and culture, assure clients that commitments will be met, and solutions will be accurate, develop credibility within the organization, and drive change and improvement in the face of resistance.
- Ability to impact the organization and advance organizational goals through influence without direct authority.
- Capable of clear and concise verbal and written communication including delivery of presentation to executive leadership.
- Exceptional analytical skills to guide the team in analyzing data, problem solving, and developing practical solutions to complex problems.
- Demonstrated experience in authoring technical reports, standards, specifications, procedures and other technical documents.
