Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Sr. Buyer, Indirect Sourcing, to be based out of our corporate headquarter located in Harvey, IL. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Global Commodity, this role will be responsible for applying strategic sourcing expertise and will utilize a structured strategic sourcing process to manage assigned indirect categories (e.g., IT, MRO, facilities, professional services and other categories as assigned).

What you'll do:

The Sr. Buyer, Indirect Sourcing, will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with key suppliers to drive value, ensure quality, and optimize cost efficiencies. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to foster strong collaborative partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of supply chain dynamics, exceptional communication skills, and a track record of successful supplier management. This position advises and guides the business regarding the implementation and integration of strategic sourcing philosophies and techniques to meet the needs of our internal customers.

Additional responsibilities include:



  • Leads supplier negotiations and contract lifecycle management while driving long-term strategic partnerships focused on innovation, market trends, and alignment with evolving business objectives.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and onboards suppliers that meet company standards, while executing supplier relationship management practices including business reviews and ongoing engagement to ensure quality, cost, and delivery performance.
  • Develops and supports multi-year category strategies by analyzing spend data, conducting market intelligence, benchmarking supplier markets, and identifying cost drivers and innovation opportunities.
  • Risk Management: Proactively assess and mitigate supply chain risks, including potential disruptions, compliance concerns, and supplier financial stability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams such as operations, corporate, and finance to ensure sourcing strategies align with overall business objectives.
  • Executes sourcing strategies that drive cost savings, optimize specifications, and improve supplier performance through regular reviews, KPIs, and continuous improvement.
  • Supports day-to-day purchasing activities, including creating purchase orders in JDE; experience using other ERP systems is acceptable.



    What you'll bring:



    • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Supply Chain Management, with 5 - 7 years of job-related experience in strategic sourcing, indirect spend, supplier relationship, and contract management.
    • Proven ability to negotiate complex, enterprise-wide agreements while building strong supplier partnerships.
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to model financial/business impacts and develop effective sourcing solutions.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Power BI) or basic SQL is a plus.
    • Strong communication and influencing skills; demonstrated ability to present sourcing strategies to leadership.
    • Capable of working independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.
    • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Project Management, particularly within strategic sourcing, is preferred.
    • Experience building sourcing strategies or supporting strategic sourcing projects beyond transactional buying



    Within 3 months, you'll:



    • Understand the role of Sr. Buyer and link the value of the position across Atkore.
    • Evaluate strategic sourcing initiatives to generate cost savings in multiple categories.
    • Assess the market and identify an active funnel of new suppliers to deliver value across Atkore.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with other areas of the organization.



    Within 6 months, you'll:



    • Launch a minimum of 2 new corporate savings initiatives and actively maintain a project funnel with additional category opportunities.
    • Establish baseline metrics and consistently track savings, compliance, and supplier performance using dashboards or reporting tools.



    Within 12 months, you'll:



    • Deliver on cost savings goals and objectives.
    • Implement best practices across the sourcing community.
    • Conduct supplier Business Reviews

    As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $79,520 - $109,340. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
