Description

HawkEye 360 is seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team. As part of this team, you will play a key role in the design, integration, and support of all HawkEye 360 space platforms. This includes spacecraft systems engineering, constellation planning, end-to-end system architecture, and supporting business development initiatives. You'll also collaborate closely with the Space, Operations, and Product teams. HawkEye 360's satellite clusters and ground segments provide the platform RF data collection that is essential for HawkEye's core business.


HawkEye 360 is looking for a technically strong, solutions-oriented individual with proven leadership skills. The ideal candidate is experienced, creative, innovative, and passionate about cutting edge space technologies.

As the Senior Space Systems Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Support future spacecraft bus architecture strategy for our next generation of RF collection payloads.
  • Take ownership of constellation designs, and systems engineering of commercial constellation ensuring all systems meet design and operational requirements.
  • Support requirements collections from customers and product team, and flow-down those requirements to mission, sub-system, and unit-level.
  • Conduct SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) analysis and perform link budget calculations to ensure performance and compliance with mission requirements.
  • Develop detailed design documents, interface control drawing (ICD's), test plans and procedures across spacecraft subsystems.
  • Collaborate with business development and mission management to support capture efforts ensuring alignment on technical capabilities and mission goals.
  • Stay up-to-date and informed of the latest technologies and advancements in the small satellite industry.
  • Perform technical oversight of vendors and spacecraft bus suppliers to ensure successful design and development of future clusters.
  • Support expanding our strategy for vertical integration of small satellite production.


Your skills and qualifications:

Essential education and experience:


  • 5+ years professional experience in the satellite industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience building and/or operating small satellites (initial requirements gathering, design, assembly, environmental testing, launch, commissioning, operations).
  • Experience programming in at least on high-level programming language such as python
  • Experience with a spacecraft mission analysis tool such as STK, GMAT, OREKit, or FreeFlier
  • Good analytical and strategic skills, with excellent written and presentation abilities.


Desirable:

  • Experience handling expensive electronic components (ESD and Cleanroom best practices).
  • Experience with environmental testing (Thermal and Vacuum Chambers, Vibe Tables, etc.)
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board design using Altium.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics and/or attitude dynamics
  • Experience writing technical documentation such as formal requirements, design documents, RFI's, white papers, and proposals.
  • Experience with RF electronics, and RF lab equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators, etc.)
  • Experience with optical terminals and constellation mesh networks.


Base Salary Range: $130,000 - $170,000 annually

HawkEye 360 offers a compensation package that includes a competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus and benefits. We consider many factors when determining salary offers, such as candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. We are also open to considering candidates with experience and qualifications at a different level than required in a job posting, which may affect the compensation package offered.
