THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Nurse Aide, you will perform various tasks to maintain optimum inmate health and quality care while carrying out individualized care plans for those who are incarcerated at SCI Laurel Highlands. Duties will be conducted in areas to include skilled care, personal care, outpatient, and general population and will be completed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Some specific functions include completing or assisting inmates with activities of daily living and hygiene to ensure basic physical care needs are met, collecting fluids or specimens as directed, and ensuring all infection control procedures and universal healthcare precautions remain in compliance.

You will also participate in life skills programming by following nursing care plan orders, providing care and interventions consistent with inmate's needs, and completing various forms of documentation regarding assigned aspects of the nursing care plan. This professional participates in emergency situations which may involve performing CPR, in addition to participating in emergency response drills as necessary. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This position has rotating days off. Shift to be determined at time of hire.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
