Ciena is seeking a Network Engineer to play a pivotal role in delivering world-class submarine solutions. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Field Service Project Management, you'll be the technical authority driving the design, implementation, and testing of Ciena's submarine cable systems. How You Will Contribute:

  • Collaborate with Systems/Network Engineering teams to finalize high-level designs and equipment Bill of Quantities (BOQs), including third-party components, and oversee the production and approval of detailed low-level designs like equipment layouts, software configurations, and signal interconnects.

  • Integrate specialist engineering resources to build comprehensive systems, including DWDM transport, switching, DCN networks, synchronization, and network management, ensuring seamless functionality.

  • Define, produce, critique, and approve test plans and Methods of Procedure for in-station, segment, and network testing, ensuring compliance with specifications and commercial viability.

  • Serve as the technical interface with customer representatives, coordinating resources and bringing in product specialists as required to ensure alignment and satisfaction.

  • Lead field commissioning teams through in-station, segment, and network commissioning, ensuring resources are skilled and prepared for successful implementation while managing 'as-built' documentation for compliance.

  • Collaborate across teams, including Project Management, Systems Engineering, and Deployment Services, to ensure timely and successful delivery of networks into the field.

  • Manage technical issue resolution during implementation, driving root cause investigations and ensuring solutions align with specifications, while continuously reviewing and improving methods and procedures to optimize time, cost, and quality.

The Must Haves:

  • Expertise in technical planning across areas such as optical transmission systems (Submarine and Long Haul), Ethernet transport and switching, DCN networks, IP addressing, and network management systems.

  • Proven experience in planning and engineering telecommunications equipment deployments, preferably in the submarine market.

  • Formal engineering education through university or a recognized vocational apprenticeship.

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience with turn-up and testing of submarine DWDM systems.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate across teams and with customer representatives.

  • Ability to manage complex technical challenges and drive solutions to completion.

  • Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in time, cost, and quality.

Pay Range:

The annual pay range for this position in the USA is $96,900 - 154,700 USD

The annual pay range for this position in Canada is $89,100 - 142,300 CAD

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
