National Grid is hiring a Lead AMI Field Area Network Deployment Program Manager, Syracuse, NY

This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to our locations

Job Purpose

We are the New York Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Meter and Field Deployment team at National Grid. The Lead AMI Field Area Network (FAN) Deployment Program Manager position is a critical role to deploy a reliable, scalable, and secure AMI solution. The FAN enables meter communication between customers and National Grid's back-end systems, allowing for improved customer energy usage awareness and outage management.

AMI is a foundational technology to enable our clean energy future and reimagine how customer's will engage energy management in the future. The Meter and Field Deployment team is responsible for deploying 2.3 million AMI meters to National Grid's New York customers. We are committed to exceeding the expectations of our customers, shareholders, and communities today, while delivering the energy systems of tomorrow.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead end-to-end deployment of FAN infrastructure across multiple regions, including battery backups, mobile gateways, mesh extenders, gateways, and IR8140s, ensuring alignment with AMI meter deployment schedules and optimization targets.
  • Act as the primary liaison between AMI teams, digital process design, inventory management, change management partners, and regulatory stakeholders. Represent FAN deployment updates in director-level syncs and cross-functional forums.
  • Ensure FAN design, installation, and network optimization meet National Grid standards by coordinating with internal engineering, external vendors, and field operations teams.
  • Coordinate field readiness with internal teams and vendors to ensure all requirements are met ahead of AMI meter deployment.
  • Manage the holistic deployment strategy of the FAN and related projects to assure performance objectives are delivered while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Drive sector optimization, including pre- and post-deployment validation, network troubleshooting, and performance-based sector triggering.
  • Lead root cause and performance analysis, addressing issues such as water intrusion and connectivity gaps. Collaborate with engineering, standards, and vendor teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Resolve all access, permitting, material, and labor issues impacting FAN deployment.
  • Support the adoption and expansion of AMI capabilities across National Grid business units by partnering closely with Change Management Business Partners to drive return-to-business planning, ensure operational readiness, and realize the full benefits of AMI.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a remote environment and collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams across National Grid to drive deployment success.

  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid and our customers.
  • Demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and initiative, consistently driving progress while inspiring cross-functional teams and partners to align and deliver on shared deployment objectives.
  • Foster strong, trust-based relationships, ensuring customer needs and perspectives are prioritized throughout every phase of deployment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (7+ years), with 7+ years in utility infrastructure deployment, network engineering, and program management.
  • Proven leadership in cross-functional environments, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders to deliver on shared goals.
  • Strong analytical and commercial thinking skills, with the ability to identify innovative approaches and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills-verbal, written, and interpersonal-with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain project-wide metrics and performance dashboards for leadership visibility and decision-making.
  • Proactive problem-solver, skilled at anticipating and resolving barriers to keep projects on track.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the agility to respond to changing conditions and priorities.
  • Effective in virtual and hybrid team environments, collaborating across geographies and functions.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% locally to support field operations and stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated project management experience on large-scale, multi-million-dollar programs preferred
  • Familiarity with SAP, STORMS, Primavera P6, and ArcGIS systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with mesh network deployment, including hands-on experience planning, installing, and optimizing mesh extenders and related infrastructure as part of large-scale utility communication networks.

Salary
$117,000 - $138,000 a year
Salary commensurate with location and experience
