Summary of Job Duties:Academic advisors assist students in the clarification of their life/career goals and in the development of educational plans. Academic Advisors support the decision-making process of students and help students realize their maximum educational potential through communication and information. Advisors serve as facilitators of communication and coordinators of learning experiences through course and career planning and program progress review, and are agents of referral to other campus services as necessary.

Academic Advisor Responsibilities:

* Provide academic and career advising to current, new, and transfer students throughout the year

* Provide career exploration activities

* Participate in New Student Orientation activities to assist students in registration

* Provide holistic advising services to students within the advisor's caseload

* Assist undecided students in the selection of a program of study and mapping a plan to degree completion

* Help students examine interests and abilities, connecting to career choices

* Assist students with resources and activities for job preparation and job seeking

* Interpret and articulate test scores, prior college credits, and required developmental courses for desired program of study

* Assist students with access to other campus services and resources, to include but not limited to, counseling, disability services and tutoring

* Provide intervention and support for students on Academic Probation and Suspension, as well as Financial Aid Warning and Suspension to increase retention and completion

* Participate in development and delivery of training for part-time and/or faculty advisors

* Participate in professional development and other training opportunities to increase advisor knowledge and skill

* Other duties as assigned Qualifications:
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Customer and solutions oriented with a strong commitment to customer service while maintaining compliance with policies.
  • Commitment to the mission of a comprehensive two-year college and an understanding of the different components of a student services operation.
  • Must be able to articulate and execute public speaking at a level students can understand and learn.
  • Must be flexible and willing to work longer hours during peak times.
