The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence by providing expert guidance, support, and training to reduce workplace hazards. This role ensures daily compliance with all applicable government regulations and Nestle policies, while proactively identifying and mitigating risks through comprehensive assessments and collaborative action planning. A key focus of this position is injury management and the administration of occupational health claims. The Specialist will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement effective safety strategies, promote employee well-being, and drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance. Provide SH&E Leadership
- Champion a culture where safety and health are a core value.
- Coordinate, support, and deliver SH&E department training programs to ensure regulatory compliance and workforce competency.
- Offer guidance and leadership in the development and execution of health initiatives.
- Oversee and advise on injury or illness incident investigations to ensure thorough root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure timely and complete follow-up on incidents to reduce future risk exposure and maintain accurate documentation.
- Manage workers' compensation reporting and related processes.
Assess and Manage Risks
- Evaluate safety and health conditions and recommend improvements to enhance facility performance.
- Actively participate in SH&E committee initiatives and cross-functional safety team(s).
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for existing operations and new equipment or processes.
Implement Management Systems
- Maintain a continuous state of audit readiness in alignment with internal SH&E policies and external regulatory requirements.
- Ensure facility compliance with company and regulatory agency policies - including federal, state, and local legislation and regulations pertaining to worker safety.
Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting
- Accurately maintain and report safety and health metrics at the site level and within designated Nestle systems.
Protect the Future by Making the Right Choices
- Ensure the practical implementation and day-to-day compliance with applicable SH&E department guidelines.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree is required; preferably in in safety, health, or similar discipline.
- Professional certifications in SH&E-related fields are considered beneficial and may include ASP, CSP, CIH, OHST, NEBOSH, etc.
Critical Experiences
- 1-2 years experience in a Safety & Health role or related field in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment.
- Understanding of ISO 14001, OHSAS 45001, LEAN and TPM concepts.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and Workman's Compensation. Ability to reference, comprehend, and communicate applicable regulations is required.
- Technical understanding of Occupational Health and Safety topics and their relationship to production/engineering job functions.
- Must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and non-routine situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
- Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, at times with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence cross-functionally.
- Strong demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must be detailed and results oriented.
- Must be able to maintain confidential information.
- Proficiency with Windows-based applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
