OR Overview
The Operating Room at GW Hospital is a high-acuity, fast-paced surgical environment supporting complex and innovative procedures, including robotic, open-heart, trauma, transplant, and minimally invasive surgeries. Our OR features 17 state-of-the-art suites and supports a wide range of surgical specialties. As a teaching hospital, we work closely with residents and fellows, creating a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.

Position Summary
The Senior Clinical Coordinator (RN) is a frontline leadership role responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality nursing care and smooth daily operations in the Operating Room. This role bridges clinical expertise and administrative responsibilities, providing support and guidance to OR nurses, coordinating case flow, and serving as a resource for the surgical team. This role works in partnership with the Nurse Manager and Assistant Director to promote optimal outcomes for patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical expert and resource to OR nursing staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety standards.
  • Oversee daily staffing, case assignments, and workflow to ensure on-time starts and efficient turnover.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and other departments to coordinate case planning and resolve intraoperative challenges.
  • Support onboarding and training of new staff; provide performance feedback and coaching.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and monitor key metrics (e.g., infection prevention, case delays).
  • Act as a liaison between frontline staff and management; escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Ensure documentation, supply management, and equipment needs are addressed in real time.
  • Uphold standards for patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical excellence.

Qualifications

  • BSN required
  • Current RN license in the District of Columbia (or eligible for DC licensure)
  • Minimum 3 years of perioperative nursing experience in acute care setting
  • BLS and ACLS (or able to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • CNOR certification
