Responsibilities:

  • Direct transportation service providers to assure performance in support of the business plan.
  • Interpret and administer coal and transportation agreements.
  • Handle all aspects of coal scheduling and support account settlement activities as required.
  • Monitor coal quality and ensure that coal meets the contractual specifications, governmental or regulatory mandated regulations, and applicable ASTM standards.
  • Monitor plant burn and inventory levels; maintain adequate inventory levels at generation stations and terminals
  • Frequent forecasting updates - inventory levels, generation, cycle times, set count requirements, net commodity positions, etc.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the value of the coal portfolio.
  • Interact regularly with Power traders to identify opportunities and proactively manage challenges.
  • Support plants by serving as liaison for fuel handling optimization projects, including infrastructure improvements, track modifications, unloading upgrades, etc.
  • Coordinate regular coal pile inventories consistent with NRG policies.
  • Assist with negotiation of coal and transportation contracts.
  • Ensure consistent and frequent communications with NRG plant personnel and partner with operations support teams to identify asset improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with NRG's Corporate Code of Conduct, NRG's Risk Management Policies and Procedures, Sarbanes-Oxley reporting requirements, and all other applicable policies and procedures. Continually evaluate all relevant corporate policies to identify compliance as well as implement changes when needed or required
  • Support ongoing and special initiatives within the organization

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business, finance, or other relevant degree
  • Five or more years' experience in coal transportation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, sound conceptual thinker, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team setting; self-motivated
  • Advanced demonstrated experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Travel required - power plants, counterparties, industry events
