DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks and duties in preventive maintenance, alterations, modifications, and repair of special events and custodial support equipment. Support various services provided by Facilities Management - Special Events division. Assemble and breakdown special events equipment such as: stages, podiums, tables, chairs, tents, etc. Lead Building Maintenance Worker crew to accomplish requested set-ups and break down of special events. Coordinates weekday and weekend (Saturday - Wednesday) work assignments of Special Events BMW's.

Assists supervisor in checking work crews in and out at start and finish of work shift. Make minor repairs to custodial chairs and tables and cleaning dilution control systems. Coordinates and inspects the work of outside window contractors, blind cleaning contractors and new blind installers to determine duties to be performed utilizing materials and equipment. Install, repair and maintain various types of custodial equipment such as but not limited to vacuums, automatic scrubbing. low and high-speed floor machines, etc. utilizing power and hand tools. Move office furnishings when requested. May perform Sr. Custodian duties as assigned by supervisor. Will perform emergency repairs to custodial equipment, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to successfully lead a work crew in accomplishing goals and objectives.

  • Experience performing semi-skilled labor in trades such as carpentry and painting. Experience installing and repairing special events and custodial equipment. Ability to operate, repair and maintain various power and hand tools, custodial, and hi-lift equipment.

  • Knowledge of blind and drapery repair and/or replacement, window cleaning procedures and safety standards.

  • Knowledge of support custodial equipment such as high and low speed floor machines, buffers, scrubbers, etc. to repair and replace electrical motors, switches, solenoids, and restroom fixtures following all safety procedures as required by Cal-OSHA.

  • Ability to work in morgues, gross anatomy and pathological laboratories where human and animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of worker.

  • Semi-skilled in trades such as carpentry, painting, and electrical.

  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

  • Physical ability to perform assigned tasks.

  • Ability to use problem-solving skills and sound judgement and respond quickly to emergency situations.

  • Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Ability to build and maintain customer relationships using a professional approach in handling customer service needs and problems.

  • Ability to maintain acceptable work habits and regular attendance. Ability to be punctual and meet established deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively work individually or in teams as well as with diverse groups. Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing or electronically.

  • Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Ability to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker.

  • Valid California drivers license.

  • Background check required.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $60,343 - $79,636 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $28.90 - $38.14

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
