Learn more about the benefits of working at UC Brief Summary of Job Duties: The Coordinator for Diversity Initiatives and UC LEADS Systemwide program helps oversee and coordinate the UC Systemwide UC LEADS (University of California Leadership Excellence Through Advanced Degrees) program. The Coordinator will work with the Systemwide Director, the Office of Graduate Studies at UC Office of the President, and the UC LEADS Steering Committee in establishing long-term goals and implementing program enhancements. They will help plan and implement complex, high visibility events including the annual Koret Research and Leadership Symposium. They will help coordinate aspects of a comprehensive program to support diversity in graduate education at UCSB. Identifies and addresses the various needs of a diverse graduate student population, which may consist of differences in race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, disability, age, medical condition, ancestry, citizenship, sexual orientation, or uniformed services. Effectively organizes and facilitates processes and functions to ensure the success of diversity programs and/or services. The Coordinator for Diversity Initiative and UC LEADS Systemwide will represent UCSB graduate degree programs at recruitment fairs, forums, and conferences. *Important Additional Information About This Position: This position is in a job classification that recently became part of the Student Services and Advising Professionals (SSAP) bargaining unit. This is a newly-established unit that is exclusively represented by the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW). The University and the UAW will begin bargaining over the terms and conditions of employment for the SSAP unit in Summer 2025. Until such time as a Collective Bargaining Agreement can be fully agreed-upon and ratified, the terms and conditions of employment for positions in the SSAP unit will continue to be governed by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM). Misconduct Disclosure Requirement: UC LEADS Systemwide Program Coordination - 50% Under the direction of the Director of the UC systemwide program, coordinates the UC LEADS (University of California Leadership Excellence Through Advanced Degrees) program. The goal of the UC LEADS program is to prepare science and engineering undergraduates from traditionally underrepresented groups for graduate study. The UCSB Graduate Division administers this undergraduate research and graduate preparatory program on behalf of the UC Office of the President. Works with the Systemwide UC LEADS Director, the Office of Graduate Studies at UC Office of the President, and the UC LEADS Steering Committee (chaired by a UC Graduate Dean and including faculty and staff representation from across the UC system) in establishing and reviewing long-term program goals. Provides and makes recommendations for the improvement of the UC LEADS program. Convenes bi-monthly UC LEADS Coordinator meetings, ensuring consistency of program implementation and practice across the ten UC campuses. Tracks expenditures for Systemwide UC LEADS activities. Maintains and distributes program guidelines and other coordinator reference materials. Implements marketing and communication efforts of the program including program website, social media, and print publications. Oversees participant and alumni tracking and reporting requirements, and provides annual and historical reports and other information as needed to the UC Office of the President, as well as to Chancellors, EVCs, Graduate Deans and Deans of Sciences and Engineering on the 10 UC campuses. Conducts longitudinal and annual data projects which require experience with and expert understanding of graduate education, recruitment, and diversity data. Projects include analyzing historical information, synthesizing results and creating reports for various audiences. In coordination with the Director and the UC LEADS campus coordinators, plans and implements complex, high visibility events including the annual Koret UC LEADS Research and Leadership Symposium and the UC LEADS Coordinators retreat. Monitors campus recruitment and placement of UC undergraduates into the UC LEADS program and research placement of scholars. Assists with promotion, tracking, and organization of UC LEADS Fellowship for UC LEADS alumni in UC graduate programs. Diversity Initiatives - 30% Under the direction of the Admissions, Outreach, and Diversity Director, manages aspects of a comprehensive program to support diversity in graduate education at UCSB. Identifies and addresses the various needs of a diverse graduate student population, which may consist of differences in race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, disability, age, medical condition, ancestry, citizenship, sexual orientation, or uniformed services. Maintains expert knowledge of current issues, research literature, services and resources for first generation, low income and underrepresented student populations in graduate education. Serve as the coordinator of the Graduate Scholars Program (GSP). Responsible for the recruitment and selection of students to participate in GSP (estimated 75-100 new students per year). Plans and implements quarterly programming. Advises scholars in the areas of campus resources, academic development and Graduate Division processes. Conducts research, oversees maintenance of web and print material, and provides students with essential information to assess academic progress and develop individual action plans for fulfilling degree requirements and milestones and preparing for career options, referring to appropriate faculty and/or staff as necessary. Recruits, selects and oversees as well as ensures ongoing training for a graduate student staff of a Diversity and Outreach Peer Advisor and approximately 30 graduate student mentors. Plans support for UC-HBCU scholars, including folding them into GSP and planning quarterly lunches. Monitors expenditures for multiple diversity programs and/or services to ensure programs are within budget. Advises Director and Deans on budgetary needs or discrepancies. Outreach - 20% Represents UCSB graduate degree programs at recruitment fairs, forums, and conferences. Coordinates visits to UCSB by off-campus groups and individuals. Provides information and/or gives presentations about graduate study at UC Santa Barbara and makes referrals as appropriate. Helps to coordinate summer Academic Research Consortium (ARC), which supports undergraduate and masters degree students seeking research experiences in preparation for doctoral degree programs.
