The Division of Human Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred Universityinvites applications for a tenure-track position in history at the rank of Assistant Professor tobegin Fall 2026.

Salary = $54,000 - $59,000/Academic Year, depending on experience.

We seek to hire a historian of Latin America. The successful candidate will:
  • Have experience teaching history courses at the university or college level as the instructor of record.
  • Be able to teach a wide range of history courses. The person hired would teach some survey courses as well as upper-level courses in their areas of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates who express a willingness to expand their course offerings beyond their field.
  • Demonstrate an enthusiasm for service, both to the discipline and to the University, that will encourage student participation and a sense of community. History faculty regularly participate in student professionalization programs, field trips, study abroad, internship advisement, and conference preparation.
  • Align with the University's mission of helping students realize their purpose, including the University's three core strengths of intersections, mentorship, and inclusivity.
  • Be committed to interdisciplinary cooperation at the University, which may include the programs of the Division of Human Studies (Philosophy, History, and Religious Studies), the College's interdisciplinary programs (such as Africana Studies, Global Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and Social Justice Studies), or programs within the University's other schools and colleges (Museums and Galleries Practices).
  • Have a record of research and publications within the historical field consistent with their career stage.
  • Have attained a PhD in history by the starting date of the role.
