Department: Inpatient Phlebotomy

Position Type: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Non-Exempt

Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am Thursday, 11:45 pm - 8:15 am Friday - Sunday

Your role with us

The phlebotomist at Salem Health is responsible for leading and educating team members, effectively communicating with staff and management, and maintaining high standards of performance while performing venipuncture and other related tasks. This role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently. The ideal candidate will be a supportive team player with a strong commitment to patient care and professional development.

What you'll do

  • Leads and educates team members, promotes flexibility and teamwork, and serves as a resource for staff.
  • Effectively communicates with manager, supervisor, and coworkers, prioritizes work for optimal efficiency, and resolves technical problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of principles and procedures, responds to questions, and assists in coordinating training for new policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidentiality, uses interpersonal skills to convey a positive attitude, and ensures staff use downtime appropriately.
  • Reviews and creates standard operating policies and procedures, maintains equipment, and follows infection control and safety procedures.
  • Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities, supports changes and improvements, and monitors supplies.
  • Receives, records, and relays messages accurately, resolves complaints, and assists others.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation, takes responsibility for professional development, and meets or exceeds hospital attendance standards.
  • Works productively, is dependable, and uses sound judgment to provide excellence in teamwork and patient care.

Required qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy technician certification within six months of hire (ASCP/NHA/BHCO).
  • One year phlebotomy experience OR successful completion of an accredited phlebotomy program.

Additional Information

  • Having experience in team process, quality management, and problem solving is an asset.
  • The ability to learn and successfully perform collection procedures and patient testing, as well as use a Positive Patient ID collection system, is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of specimen requirements for standard tests and experience with a Laboratory Information System is valued.
  • The ability to train students and newly hired staff strongly desired.
