Under direction of the IT Director, Application Development, this position serves as a System Integration Developer for multiple complex operations between internal and external software systems at the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory (CAHFS) and Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (EACL).
This position works with the System Integration Lead to to design, create, code, implement and support software solutions and systems, including systems that interface with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and campus systems.
Responsible for reviewing and creating thorough documentation and training materials for the department's electronic information systems and workflows, ensuring documentation and work products adhere to external accreditation and proficiency standards.
Provides end-user support for internal applications and serves as backup to the department's electronic messaging coordinator.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in Computer Science or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing and supporting integrations between third-party and locally developed applications to create efficient processes, using direct database access and APIs.
- Demonstrated experience learning and using various programming languages and methodologies, APIs, web services, or integration tools to adapt to the needs of the business.
- Knowledge of and experience using SQL with relational databases such as Oracle or MS SQL Server to design databases, create and modify tables, write complex, efficient queries, build reports and/or perform extract transform load (ETL) functions.
- Experience developing secure code, analyzing code for vulnerabilities, and remediating security issues.
- Skills working in a regulated environment with system validation and change control.
- Technical writing skills to develop work plans, thorough documentation, clear correspondence, and effective and complete operating procedures and user training manuals.
- Knowledge and communication skills to bridge the technical/functional communications gap to clearly understand the needs and perspectives of CAHFS users and to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals including colleagues, vendors, clients, and regulatory agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment including knowledge of unique technical needs of a laboratory.
- Experience working in an environment with data and reporting requirements governed by state and federal regulations.
- Experience using messaging systems and frameworks to reliably, accurately and securely transmit data to third parties.
- Familiarity with the .NET programming environment and architecture.

Department Overview
The School of Veterinary Medicine Information Technology (SVM-IT) provides comprehensive information and educational technology services to the faculty, students, and staff of the School of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), and the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS). SVM-IT provides services in Operations, Application Development, and Project Management in order to support the Clinical/Lab Systems, Academic/Research Systems, and Administrative Systems of the SVM.
The California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS) is a vital component of California's efforts to protect the health of its livestock and poultry industries. CAHFS provides comprehensive diagnostic laboratory services aimed at disease control, animal health management, and protection from zoonotic diseases. Operating four branch laboratories in Davis, Turlock, Tulare, and San Bernardino, CAHFS plays a key role in the state's animal disease warning system through its surveillance programs.
