Tutor - Bachelor's Degree

Tutors are employed part-time to assist students who request instruction in LAC courses or tutoring in specific college courses. Tutors also teach English to non-native speakers through the English as a Second Language curriculum. Direct supervision and payment of tutors is provided under the Director of the LAC although partial funding for tutors may come from the Perkins Grant the Office of Disability Services or the TRIO Grant. Other duties may be assigned by the Director or the Perkins Coordinator.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Tutors students who are enrolled in Tutoring Center numbered courses.
2. Tutors students in Lake Land College courses.
3. Tutors students in English as a Second Language.
4. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

• High School Diploma through graduate degree, depending on subject area tutored.

• Varies according to subject area tutored.

• Good knowledge of subject area to be tutored; knowledge of basic study skills and test taking skills; excellent reading ability; other knowledge may be required based upon subject area tutored.

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to communicate well with students and professional staff; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work well under pressure; patience.
