JOB SUMMARY

The Project Manager in the Office of the Chancellor provides high-level project management and policy analysis support on a range of issues related to the work of the Chancellor, compliance with the Clery Act, and in collaboration with other senior leaders. The Project Manager will be responsible for analyzing internal and external data to support decision-making, supporting and leading workgroups and committees focused on specific issues, maintaining internal documentation that furthers collaboration and accountability across offices and divisions, stewarding projects with campus-wide impact, and supporting and contributing to strategic work to support the university's goals and mission.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $71,600 - $90,000. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

40% - Project and Policy Development and Implementation

  • Researches, monitors and analyzes regulations, legislation, best practices, and UC policies for impact on the Clery Act compliance. Develops proposals and recommendations on updating policies and/or procedures to guide and support continued compliance
  • Develops and implements efficient and effective systems for managing information, projects, and communications to ensure accurate and timely responses
  • Independently and collaboratively manages projects of all scales and durations with complex issues and competing priorities
  • Supports effective use of project management tools to enhance collaboration across offices and progress on shared goals

35% - Analysis

  • Investigate issues and problems
  • Pulls and analyzes metrics and data, identifies trends, visualizes data and trends for presentation to a range of audiences, drafts and prepares responses to urgent requests
  • Researches, compiles, and summarizes issues, policies, and relevant topics (i.e., Clery Act, Collective Bargaining Agreements, campus and system-wide policy). Has access to information that significantly contributes to collective bargaining.

20% - Workgroups

  • Proposes, leads and/or staffs, campus-wide and smaller-scale committees, task forces, and working groups
  • Coordinates quarterly and monthly committee meetings, generates reports, and identifies action items
  • Uses influence and project management skills to ensure progress toward outcomes for these groups
  • Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents for the collection and exchange of data.

5% - Professional Development

  • Pursues opportunities to enhance skills, stay abreast with institutional methods for data analysis and reporting. Participates in workshops and training, professional groups, and organizations to enhance skills and stay current on tools.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience and/or training
  • Knowledge of standard computer application programs including Power Point, Word, Excel and their Google equivalents.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and synthesize large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals/analyses.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, faculty, students and external constituencies
  • Strong written communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the organization, as well as the Office of the President and external constituencies.

  • Thorough knowledge of the University of California processes, protocols, and/or procedures

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Selected candidate must pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.
  • Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical requirements necessary to move light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs., with or without accommodation.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs. If a hybrid work schedule is confirmed, the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Ability to maintain appearance and conduct suitable for working in a professional setting.
  • Selected candidate will be required to complete training within established time frames as directed including UC compliance training.
