JOB ANNOUNCEMENT COORDINATING ENGINEER I FLEET AND FACILITY MANAGEMENT (2FM) Architecture and Construction Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $115,992; Grade: GY-12 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59 pm CDT on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Under direction, the class coordinates and supervises the work of an engineering section responsible for the planning, design and monitoring of construction on infrastructure and building projects, or functions as a project manager for a major engineering project of considerable scope and complexity; and performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Responsible for the design engineering strategies through specifying, generating drawings, reports, or papers for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing projects for a large capital portfolio. * Facilitates the planning, specifying and development of building infrastructure design, including but not limited to producing feasibility studies, environmental reasoning, creating/reviewing project proposals, estimating project costs, determining/reviewing timelines and overseeing the construction processes. * Role requires the interpretation and application of local/federal building codes, product specifications, facility standards, and rigorous quality assurance and quality control. Conducts/attends site visits to assess existing conditions, monitor work in progress and to ensure compliance with project schedules, contract specifications and budget guidelines. * Works closely with the Bureau of Facility Operations to assess existing building systems, recommend, and specify solutions for most effective and efficient solutions for current and future conditions. Confers with stakeholders, bureaus, and client departments to discuss the need for infrastructure improvements, building system expansion of existing municipal facilities. Additional duties may be required for this position.
LOCATION: 2 North LaSalle Street HOURS: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday THIS POSITION IS NOT CAREER SERVICE. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus five (5) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Engineering, plus four (4) years of work experience in the planning, design, and construction management of engineering projects, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position * Depending upon department assignment, field of engineering may vary. * Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required. At the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois. * Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
