Your Job

As a First-Shift Refractory Mixer at John Zink in Tulsa, OK, you'll blend high-heat refractory materials, maintain accurate batch logs, and perform rock-and-patch repairs on ceramic and masonry surfaces. You'll also assemble components to blueprint specifications, take precise measurements, and occasionally operate forklifts or overhead cranes.

What You Will Do

  • Mix refractory materials, coatings and high-heat ceramics according to batch logs
  • Assemble and install refractory components (tile, masonry, ceramic panels) per blueprint and drawing specifications
  • Perform rock and patch work to repair or finish refractory surfaces
  • Maintain accurate batch log and equipment clean-out records
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and tape measures to ensure proper fit and finish
  • Install and fasten components (valve trains, tubing, insulation, conduit) as needed
  • Operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes (occasional)
  • Apply critical thinking and basic math to troubleshoot and complete tasks safely and efficiently
  • Comply with all safety protocols; wear appropriate PPE including respiratory protection for mixing/painting

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Proven mixing/assembly experience in refractory, masonry or high-temperature materials
  • Experience reading a tape measure and basic blueprints
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements outlined in the job description

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with frequent carrying of up to 25 pounds)
  • Ability and willingness to utilize Personal Protective Equipment (for example: respirator certification)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Industrial assembly or refractory installation experience
  • Familiarity with coating applications and patching techniques
  • Prior work with ceramic, tile or masonry products in an industrial setting
