Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientists, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

This position is at KLA's ECI business unit based in Totowa, New Jersey. ECI has achieved global leadership in chemical metrology in plating and cleaning processes for semiconductor and PCB industries through constant innovations and industry leading analytical methods.

The ECI Business Unit includes a team of hardware and software engineers, R&D scientists, Application Engineers and Product Marketing focused on technologies that enable wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. You will be part of the engineering team.

Responsibilities:

This position focuses on the development of computational methods and the associated algorithms for the next generation of chemical monitoring metrology systems. The responsibility of this position covers the entire life cycle of method development and implementation, including:

  • Algorithm Development: Design, implement, and optimize appropriate computational methods and algorithms for real-time chemical analysis, signal processing, and data fusion across multiple analytical techniques.
  • Modeling & Simulation: Develop mathematical models from instrumental data to enable accurate and robust chemical property predictions.
  • Data Analytics: Apply statistical and machine learning methods to extract actionable insights from large-scale, multi-modal datasets.
  • System Integration: Collaborate with hardware, software, and R&D teams to integrate algorithms into embedded systems and instrument control software.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure algorithms meet stringent requirements for precision, reliability, and throughput in semiconductor manufacturing environments.
  • Documentation and user support.

Since algorithms can affect many aspects of the system, significant amount of time will be spent on cross-functional team collaboration with R&D chemistry and System Engineers groups for prototyping and testing.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, preferably with strong experience in algorithm development for instrumentation, process control, or chemical analysis systems.
  • The position requires a proven innovative track record and solid fundamental knowledge in the related fields of algorithm development, including linear/nonlinear regression, pattern recognition, classification, machine learning, , statistical data analysis, and signal processing.
  • Experience in any one of the following areas is a big plus: instrumental analysis for chemistry, algorithm performance optimization, parallel/distributed computing.
  • Software skills required include C/C++, OOD/OOP, MATLAB and/or Python.
  • The candidate needs to be a self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently and/or in a team. Strong written and verbal communications skills are needed for extensive interactions with members of a multi-disciplinary global team.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel may require <10%.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 years related work experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
