The Director of Facilities Planning and Design is responsible for creating strategies and developing, managing, project management services for capital construction projects for Stanford Medicine Children's Health. Responsible for overseeing the design process for new facilities and upgrades to existing facilities, ensuring that it aligns with the project's goals and requirements. The Director of Facilities Planning and Design will work within the project formulation processes to ensure that thoughtful, timely and informed decisions are made in support of the Hospital Strategic Plan ensuring that all planning and design work meets the required quality standards and specifications.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Contributes to and executes functional strategy for all aspects of planning and design projects at Stanford Medicine Children's Health ensuring enablement and alignment with the broader organizational initiatives. Sets Priorities and manages and allocates resources to align with departmental and organizational needs.

*Provides strategic input, direction, and oversees/manages the planning and design for capital construction projects from end to end. Assure compliance with applicable laws, building codes, energy and sustainability guidelines, and standards of good practice governing the safety of hospital and outpatient facilities.

*Partners with key stakeholders across the organization to ensure capital projects and programs are in line with the organization's goals. Manages the hospital's relationship with local municipalities and other outside jurisdictional agencies such as the Office of Statewide Planning and Development (OSHPD)

* Drives business decisions and creates short and long-term goals and objectives. Utilize best practices in executing projects within the approved multi-year capital plan in adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Develops, implements, and maintains a benchmarking system that forecasts costs for individual and multiple projects.

* Identifies and resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems, applying critical thinking to recommend standards and operating strategies that mitigate risk and propel growth. Implements policies for facilities programming, planning, design, construction, and activation of capital construction projects.

*Collaborates with the Executive Director and Senior Vice President to prepare, analyze, and present budget and get programs/projects approved. Manages department budget and expenses by reviewing plan design objectives, utilization trends, expense projections and recommending alternative options. Provides budget updates as needed.

* In collaboration with the Executive Director, negotiates contracts for architects and engineers with outside vendors/contractors. Manages relations with vendors and contractors. Evaluates performance, provides improvement feedback, and makes changes as necessary.

* Actively participate in the campus disaster preparedness (i.e. Earthquake preparedness) and recovery program as applied to facilities coordination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience including 2 years of supervisory experience

* Demonstrated ability to budget, make financial projections including strong analytical skills and ability to prepare meaningful reports for the executive leadership

* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation

* Leadership skills required to handle potentially sensitive situations by applying communication and consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups to gain understanding and reach acceptance of optimal decisions

* Demonstrated performance relating to the principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal and personnel management

* Ability to work in a high performing, team setting including demonstrating leadership by example

* Management proficiency to plan, organize, motivate, mentor, direct and evaluate the work of others

* Ability to prioritize work by making informed judgments and to develop solutions for complex problems

* Ability to read, comprehend, and draft legal and technical documents relating to facilities and projects

* Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $85.32 to $116.67
