The estimated base salary range for this role is "$140,000 to $170,000" per year.

Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Sr Principal Engineer with the Corporate Headquarters in Lancaster, PA and manufacturing locations throughout the US. The Sr Principal Engineer will be expected to lead and manage cross-functional project teams (both internal and external) on significant capital investments to meet safety, cost, quality, and schedule commitments while demonstrating a high degree of project management rigor. Projects will typically range in scope from $5 to $10 million and may require managing external engineering resources. Project scopes include installing new manufacturing lines, upgrading major assets, automation projects, and plant expansions or new builds.

In this highly visible position, the Sr Principal Engineer will report to the Director of Capital and interact with senior leadership to obtain project approvals and provide updates on deliverables.

  • Business Case Development - support developing business cases
  • Project Definition - partner with business leaders to develop project charter and deliverables
  • Cost Estimation - develop capital, expense, and operating estimates
  • Project Planning - build detailed plans and timelines
  • Resource Planning - develop well-defined roles, resources, and structure
  • Equipment - specify, design, procure, and install
  • Communication - utilize and develop impactful project communication plans
  • Cost Management - manage capital and expense to agree upon budget & forecast
  • Schedule Management - manage project timeline & milestones with visibility to critical path
  • Performance Management - set & enforce clear & quantifiable key measures of success
  • Risk Management - anticipate, identify, and resolve business risks & issues
  • Scope & Change Management - manage scope creep and change effectively
  • Procurement & Contract Management - utilize appropriate procurement and contract management tools and techniques to minimize costs and risks
  • Project Governance - ensure compliance, safeguards, and project transparency
  • Project Execution - deliver success project results - safety, cost, schedule, performance
  • Project Closure - close out projects with effective transition to operations

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of combined engineering, operations, and/or project management experience
  • Direct experience in large scale manufacturing capital projects
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment

  • Experience using EPCM or Design Build external engineering firm delivery methods

  • Precision and Preventative maintenance, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT's) experience strongly desired
  • Experience with SAP
