Introduction to the job:

Are you a visionary architect with deep expertise in heat and mass transfer? Do you thrive on solving complex engineering challenges and influencing the technical direction of cutting-edge systems? At ASML, we are looking for aFunctional Module Architectto lead the development of innovative thermal and fluidic solutions that drive the performance of our lithography systems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

You will operate at the sub-system or function level, influencing up to 80 FTEs across projects. Your role is pivotal in shaping the technical direction of thermal and fluidic systems within ASML's complex mechatronic products. You will be recognized as a technical leader in your field, capable of navigating ambiguity and driving clarity in both stable and evolving functions.

  • Define and evolve architecturefor heat and mass transfer domains, breaking down complex subsystems into actionable engineering work packages.
  • Lead feasibility studiesto assess technical options, risks, and trade-offs, ensuring alignment with business drivers such as imaging, overlay, focus, and productivity.
  • Develop and maintain roadmapsfor your domain, ensuring architectural integrity, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Drive critical component selectionthrough trade-off studies, balancing performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Guide verification and validationby defining test strategies and reviewing test specifications to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Document design rationaleincluding trade-offs, decision trees, and historical context to support future development and failure analysis.
  • Collaborate cross-functionallywith system engineers, project leads, and architects from other domains to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Mentor and leada small team of architects and senior engineers (typically up to 10 FTE), fostering technical excellence and innovation.
Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, Fluid Dynamics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in high-tech system development, with a strong focus on heat and mass transfer.
  • Proven track record in system architecture, feasibility analysis, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment, aerospace, or other precision engineering environments is a plus.
Skills:
  • Deep domain knowledge in thermal management, fluid dynamics, and system integration.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and build consensus across disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools and methodologies (e.g., MBSE, SysML, FMEA).

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently:

$133,500-222,500

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.

The Company offers employees and their families, medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to participate in the Company's 401k plan. Employees will also receive eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month and (13) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
