Your Role on Our Team: As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and delivering impactful BI solutions that power decision-making across the business. You'll work closely with business partners to understand analytical needs, translate them into scalable models and visualizations, and ensure consistent, reliable access to trusted data. This role emphasizes strong technical craftsmanship, business acumen, and a growing ability to mentor others and drive data culture. You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
- End-to-End BI Development: Build scalable data models, dashboards, and reports in Power BI (or similar tools) that provide actionable insights to stakeholders across functions.
- Collaborative Requirements Gathering: Partner with business users to translate analytics needs into data models and visualization requirements.
- Semantic Layer and Data Modeling: Develop curated datasets and semantic models that balance performance, flexibility, and governance.
- Root Cause Analysis & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve issues in data pipelines and reports, using structured problem-solving and root cause techniques.
- Agile Project Execution: Participate in sprint planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives. Break down work into manageable deliverables aligned with business priorities.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicate insights, progress, and blockers clearly and regularly with cross-functional partners.
- Data Governance & Security: Implement and uphold best practices around data stewardship, security, and role-based access controls.
- Self-Service Enablement: Develop documentation, training materials, and reusable assets that support business user adoption and self-service analytics.
- Mentorship & Coaching: Provide feedback to peers and junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
The TOOLS you'll bring with you:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Years of Experience: 5+ years of experience in BI development, analytics engineering, or data visualization roles.
- BI Tool Expertise: Deep experience with Power BI (DAX, dataflows, dataset management), and familiarity with Tableau or Looker a plus.
- SQL & Data Modeling: Strong skills in SQL (window functions, CTEs, performance tuning), and experience building star/snowflake schemas.
- Cloud & Data Platforms: Experience with cloud environments such as Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks for data transformation and modeling.
- DevOps & Version Control: Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Git, and automated deployment processes for BI solutions.
- Storytelling & Insight Delivery: Ability to frame insights clearly using compelling visuals and narratives tailored to business audiences.
- Business Acumen: Demonstrated understanding of how BI solutions impact decision-making and drive value.
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
- Experience with Azure DevOps: Familiarity with Azure DevOps for managing workflows, integrating with Power BI, and streamlining project pipelines.
- Knowledge of Power Automate: Ability to use Power Automate to enhance reporting processes by automating repetitive tasks and improving data workflows within the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Data Governance Tools: Familiarity with tools like Databricks Unity Catalog or Azure Purview for managing data governance, lineage, and quality across the organization's data assets.
- Custom Visuals in Power BI: Experience creating or implementing custom visuals in Power BI to deliver more tailored and impactful reports.
- Basic Python Skills: General knowledge of Python for enhancing data workflows or performing advanced analytics when needed.
- Experience with Business Systems: Demonstrated experience working with enterprise platforms such as Oracle, SAP, POS systems, demand planning tools, supply chain execution systems, and general ledger or ERP systems to extract, model, and analyze data for reporting, operational performance, and strategic planning.
