Job Duties
- Responsible for participating in the monthly close processes and supporting financial reporting activities.
- Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and reconciling financial discrepancies. May specialize in one area of the accounting function.
- Establishes and maintains accounting systems, solves accounting problems and participates in the development of procedures and policies; analyzes records, reports and statements to determine financial condition of organization.
- Participates in maintaining fiscal records, postings to ledgers and journals, processing vouchers, invoices and carrying out other accounting functions.
- Prepares complex financial reports and statements.
- Carries out a variety of related fiscal responsibilities (e.g., coordinates inventory control; maintains fixed assets; deals with treasury and investment activities).
- Advises and consults with fiscal officers and other administrative personnel on fiscal problems, technical accounting procedures and/or interpretation and application of policies and relevant statutory requirements.
- Assists with E-ZPass account reconciliation; performs and/or participates in internal auditing of financial records to assure accuracy.
- Performs any other duties or special projects as may be assigned by the Comptroller or Chief Financial Officer.

Typical Qualifications

Major Worker Characteristics
- Knowledge of rules and procedures of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Code of Professional Ethics, various aspects of the Ohio Revised Code, and debt trust agreements.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel) and various accounting software.
- Ability to deal with large number of technical/fiscal variables and determine budgetary projections and allotments adequate to meet operational needs and/or authorize expenditures within spending authority.
- Apply principles to solve practical, everyday problems; work independently with little or no supervision; handle routine and sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and representatives from within and outside the organization; maintain high levels of trust and confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a four-year undergraduate degree with a major in Accounting or Finance required.
- Advanced degree or licensure (i.e. MBA, CPA) preferred.
- Two years of general accounting experience with a background in auditing and/or non-profit accounting preferred.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Excel, and accounting software applications.

Unusual Working Conditions The work environment is typically in an office setting. A mistake or missed time constraint could lead to significant exposure to risk. Accuracy to detail is required. Loss of timely, accurate financial data upon which management decisions are based could result in public mistrust.
