The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Patient Monitor monitors the cardiac rhythm and identifies changes in the cardiac rhythm and reports their findings to the Primary Registered Nurse caring for the patient. The Patient Monitor knows which patients are on Telemetry and their bed location and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by The Employee Service Standards of Behavior.

The Patient Monitor is responsible for reporting identified safety issues and knowledge of the patient population served and communicates effectively and collaborates with nurses and other patient care providers.

The Patient Monitor is an individual practitioner and interdisciplinary team member integrating all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs. The Patient Monitor assures safety in practice inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for his/her own professional advancement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • Completion of a Certified Telemetry Monitor Course
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem (PD)

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor Telemetry console to identify cardiac rhythms and changes in rhythms
  • Cleans equipment per manufacturer's guidelines between patient use
  • Maintains monitor transmitters in a safe location when not in use
  • Maintains alarms between 40 and 120 unless otherwise ordered
  • Runs and mounts strips per protocol
  • Identifies cardiac rhythm strips correctly
  • Maintains an adequate supply of equipment, i,e, leads, batteries and paper
  • Ensures monitor count is done at the end of every shift
  • Changes the printer paper when indicated
  • Prepares patient for cardiac monitoring using proper technique
  • Checks leads and inserts a new battery before applying to the patient
  • Verifies patient's identity before application
  • Properly prepares skin for monitoring
  • Orients patients to equipment and rationale for use before applying the transmitter
