We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Business Development Manager to lead growth initiatives in the utility sector. This role focuses on identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and driving revenue growth through targeted sales efforts with utility companies. This team member will focus on supporting customers and growing business in the following states ND, SD, MN, IA, IL, and WI. Our ideal candidate would reside geographical in one of these states.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with public and private utility companies.
- Focus on transformer sales and repair, field service offerings and surplus buying to increase our inventory.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including utility executives, procurement officers, and technical decision-makers.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans tailored to the utility sector.
- Lead the proposal development process, including RFP/RFI responses and presentations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, marketing, finance) to tailor solutions to utility client needs.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to identify opportunities or risks.
- Attend industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to build brand visibility and client pipeline.
- Achieve or exceed revenue targets and KPIs as defined by the business unit.
- Prepare detailed sales forecasts, reports, and pipeline updates for executive leadership.
- High School diploma or GED
- 5+ years of experience in business development or sales, preferably in the utility, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record of securing major utility accounts or partnerships.
- Strong knowledge of utility industry dynamics, regulations, and procurement processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage complex, long sales cycles.
- Familiarity with public utility commissions (PUCs), federal/state energy programs, or government-funded projects.
- Proficiency in CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce).
