Job Summary Please note: duration will be for approximately six months; 24 - 32 hours per week.
The UCSF Dyslexia Center (https://dyslexia.ucsf.edu/) focuses on improving diagnosis, care, and interventions for children and adults with learning challenges and includes principal investigators across two different departments, Neurology and Psychiatry. Our multidisciplinary research team includes renowned neuroscientists, geneticists, and clinicians across language, reading, cognition, aging, visuospatial, and social domains who examine the whole person throughout the lifespan. This multifaceted approach helps us to characterize the strengths and weaknesses associated with dyslexia and to develop interventions and educational strategies to help children with dyslexia thrive.
The Dyslexia Center has developed a state-funded early reading screening tool for students in kindergarten, first, and second grades, called Multitudes (https://multitudesinfo.ucsf.edu/). Available at no cost to all public schools in the state of California, Multitudes will assist educators in identifying possible reading obstacles and intervening early to prevent these difficulties from holding students back. It will also highlight student strengths, leveraging each individual's knowledge and abilities. Grounded in the latest research in the neuroscience of reading, Multitudes is designed to identify students who may experience reading difficulty and provide actionable results and practical next steps for their educators.
We are seeking skilled education and training professionals to support the statewide implementation of Multitudes as Training Specialists. The Training Specialists will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team committed to improving literacy outcomes for young students across California. Their role will be to facilitate training sessions, both virtually and in person at school locations around the state, to assist users in the adoption and use of the Multitudes platform and screener with their K-2 students.
Key Responsibilities
- Professional Development and Training Facilitation:
- Facilitate virtual professional development sessions for schools and districts adopting Multitudes.
- Provide adequate support to training participants, ensuring that they meet training learning goals.
- Collect participant feedback on the training content and use of the Multitudes platform.
- Collaboration with Training Lead:
- Provide feedback to the training lead on training sessions, including areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the training lead to support iterative development in training content and approaches.
- Communication and Support:
- Communicate effectively with training participants about the purpose and benefits of universal screening with Multitudes.
- Help establish and maintain positive relationships between the Multitudes team and our school partners.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $68,400 - $102,500 (Annual Rate). Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Minimum two years of relevant field experience.
- Bilingual Spanish Speaker
- Knowledge and experience working with educators as adult learners in a training, coaching, or professional development context.
- Experience teaching literacy in the early elementary grades to multilingual students.
- Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with district and school-level administrators, principals, teachers, students, and community contacts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching multilingual students and students with learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of evidence-based reading strategies and bilingual literacy development.
