System Architect Job Summary B&A is seeking a skilled Lead Sustainment Developer (Systems Architect) to provide strategic leadership and hands-on technical expertise in the sustainment, architecture, and operational support of enterprise health IT systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in maintaining and enhancing large-scale systems, especially within the Department of Defense (DoD) health IT ecosystem, including systems such as AHLTA and HAIMS. This role is key to ensuring continuity, performance, and modernization of mission-critical platforms, with a focus on systems built using OpenText Content Suite, AppWorks, and Archive Center. Responsibilities
- Lead the sustainment and operations of large-scale health IT systems, including performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, updates, and incident resolution.
- Provide systems architecture support, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise and DHA architectural goals.
- Develop and apply automated solutions for engineering, scientific, and business data acquisition and management problems using modern computer techniques and tools.
- Plan and architect enhancements, modernization efforts, and integrations for existing DHA systems, including AHLTA and HAIMS.
- Collaborate with program offices, business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure high system availability and performance.
- Oversee system documentation, including technical design, configuration management, maintenance procedures, and architecture artifacts.
- Support implementation and sustainment of OpenText enterprise content management (ECM) platforms such as Content Suite, AppWorks, and Archive Center.
- Ensure compliance with security, configuration, and documentation standards as defined by DHA and DoD guidelines.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional work experience.
- Minimum 10 years of technical experience supporting and sustaining health IT systems.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of computer science concepts, system automation, and data management techniques.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with the operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex, large-scale systems.
- Proven experience in the architecture and planning of DHA systems such as AHLTA and HAIMS.
- Experience working in secure environments, with knowledge of DoD IT policies and sustainment best practices.
Desired Skills
- Experience implementing and supporting OpenText ECM solutions, including Content Suite, AppWorks, and Archive Center.
- Familiarity with ITIL or similar frameworks for IT service and operations management.
- Working knowledge of health data standards (e.g., HL7, DICOM, FHIR).
- Experience with configuration management tools and sustainment practices for DoD or federal systems.
- Familiarity with system monitoring tools, logging platforms, and automation frameworks.
- Strong leadership and communication skills; able to coordinate across diverse technical teams and government stakeholders.
- Analytical and detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting capabilities.
- Self-driven with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond to incidents and operational demands quickly and effectively.
- Comfortable mentoring junior staff and leading troubleshooting efforts across technical domains.
