POSITION SCOPE

The Rockfall Technician/Rock Scaler will be responsible for assessing, managing, and mitigating the risks associated with falling rocks on slopes, cliffs, or construction sites. Professionals in this field work to ensure safety by implementing protective measures such as barriers, netting, or controlled rock removal. Rockfall Technicians typically work outdoors in rugged terrain, including construction sites, highways, and mountainous regions, where they evaluate and address rockfall hazards.

PRIMARY DUTIES



  • Assess and monitor rockfall hazards
  • Conduct comprehensive site inspections to identify potential rock destabilization
  • Implement appropriate mitigation measures, including the installation of rockfall barriers, mesh, or netting, to prevent debris from reaching critical infrastructure or populated areas
  • Perform duties outdoors in rugged terrain, such as construction sites, highways, and mountainous regions, often at heights, on steep slopes, and under challenging environmental conditions
  • Lift and carry weights of up to 100 pounds and work on steep slopes while secured in a rope access harness for extended durations
  • Execute necessary content manipulation, demolition, and equipment setup in accordance with project requirements
  • Maintain and manage equipment, tools, and consumable inventory to ensure operational readiness
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor



REQUIREMENTS



  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Previous rope access experience required
  • Understanding of rockfall control methods and their application
  • Previous rock scaling, SPRAT, and/or IRATA certification is preferred but not required
  • Ability to work at heights, on steep slopes, and in challenging outdoor conditions
  • Excellent teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication are essential
  • Self-starter with problem solving capabilities
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects at any given time
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and work on steep slopes in a rope access harness for extended periods of time
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Desires a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Some overtime may be required
  • Ability to travel is required
