The University Hospitals Pharmacy Technician Training Program is now open for applications!!

Our accelerated training program will provide you with all of the classroom and hands-on skill building required to become a state registered and nationally certified Pharmacy Technician here at University in as little as 16 weeks.

This program begins on October 6th, 2025.

A Brief Overview
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee will be responsible for logistically organizing, collaborating and/or delivering required discharge medications to patients and/or families or caregivers. The Trainee will ensure the successful hand-off to the appropriate medications to enable the improvement of the patient's health management and experience. The Trainee will interact primarily with pharmacists, patients, other members of the patient care team and representatives of outside organizations (pharmacies, long-term care facilities, etc.).

What You Will Do



  • Interact with patient to ensure permission has been given; patients are eligible for services, have method of payment and are properly educated. The patient is provided with appropriate medications.
  • Procurement of all patient's information and prescriptions prior to discharge.
  • Coordinate with the clinical care team, case management and other staff associated with the discharge process in order to achieve the delivery of discharge medications to the patient's bedside.
  • Demonstrate willingness to be a team player through mutual respect and cooperation with others; flexibility in work assignments and adaptability as needs change.
  • Projects a professional image by maintaining behavior appropriate to the situation as well as a neat personal appearance.
  • Understand the health care system and its component parts including sites of care, delivery models, and the roles of various providers and health care professionals.
  • Comfortable working autonomously.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to think broadly and longitudinally, constantly assessing and anticipating the needs of the patient and his/her environment.
  • Effective communication skills including both good listening and verbal and non-verbal abilities
  • Participate in a culture that embraces creativity, productivity, communication and maximizes learning from a diverse team.
  • Deliver the desired service level results to each patient for responsible service lines and patient locations.
  • Ensure the brand experience is consistently delivered to every patient.
  • Ensure all operating policies and procedures are followed at the highest level.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
