Position Summary

The College of Pharmacy (https://hsc.unm.edu/pharmacy/) is seeking a resourceful, dynamic, and experienced individual to join its team. Since 1945, the College of Pharmacy has been educating students as the only College of Pharmacy in the state of New Mexico. This position is based out of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Student Recruiter is a member of the Office of Student Affairs at the UNM College of Pharmacy and serves as a key liaison between the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy and New Mexico State University (NMSU), supporting outreach, advising, and recruitment efforts related to the Early Assurance Program (EAP) with NMSU. This position serves as the advisor for the pre-pharmacy organization at NMSU, working with student leaders to maintain an active organization that offers meetings, outreach events, and professional development opportunities. This position provides guidance on prerequisite planning, admissions processes, and pathway opportunities into the PharmD program at The College of Pharmacy for NMSU students as well as students across southern New Mexico. The recruiter coordinates with NMSU advisors and support staff to enhance student engagement and cultivate interest in the EAP and PharmD program. Additional responsibilities include attending high school and college recruitment events throughout the region and representing the College at community outreach programs. In this role, the recruiter will collaborate with the Office of Student Affairs to engage students and to develop materials, opportunities, and connections. The recruiter position will have an office on the NMSU campus, allowing for access to students. Travel to regional institutions, the College of Pharmacy in Albuquerque, or other events should be expected at least one week per month, with additional travel during specific recruitment seasons. Participation in College events will be required with evening and weekend work 6-8 times per year.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a liaison between University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy and New Mexico State University.
  2. Provide prerequisite course guidance and career advisement to prospective students.
  3. Serve as a representative of the College of Pharmacy at recruitment events in Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico.
  4. Engage prospective students in group and one-on-one settings at high school and college events.
  5. Oversee the pre-pharmacy organization at New Mexico State University.
  6. Build and maintain partnerships with regional high schools and higher educational institutions.
  7. Assist with data collection and recruitment material creation.

Required Competencies

  1. Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in various settings.
  3. Experience in student recruitment, admissions, or related higher education functions.
  4. Ability to build and maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, and industry partners.
  5. Strong organizational and event-planning skills, including coordinating recruitment events.
  6. Proficiency in database management, data analysis, and reporting.
  7. Knowledge of admissions processes, financial aid, and student retention strategies.
  8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  9. Have a valid driver's license or obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire.
  10. Willingness to travel regularly and work evenings/weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Professional experience with academic advising in higher education.
  • FERPA knowledge/certification.
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to comfortably use Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Teams, and other cloud services.
  • Knowledge of customer relationship management tools.
  • Have a valid driver's license or obtain a valid driver's license within thirty days of hire.
  • Ability to travel locally and statewide.


Additional Requirements
Travel to regional institutions, the College of Pharmacy in Albuquerque, or other events should be expected at least one week per month, with additional travel during specific recruitment seasons. Therefore, finalists are required to have a valid NM driver's license or be able to obtain a NM driver's license within thirty (30 days) of hire. Additionally, participation in College events will be required with evening and weekend work 6-8 times per year.
