STGi is currently seeking a Certified Medication Aide to provide services at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home.



The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is located in Temple, TX. Our staff provides compassionate and specialized care to our nation's veterans. We focus on providing the best experience for residents and their families.



JOB SUMMARY: To support the community by ensuring residents are well cared for and receive accurate medications as ordered by the physician/physician extender in accordance with established nursing standards, standards of medication aide practices, state and federal requirements, and guidelines of the community related to medication administration.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Obtain report from licensed nurse/CMA being relieved and record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.


2. Administer medications to residents in an accurate, timely manner to include, but not limited to, correct resident/correct medication/correct dose/correct route/correct time.


3. Observe residents for effectiveness of drug therapy and occurrence of adverse effects. Report immediately to licensed nurse.


4. Document resident cares related to medication administration, related monitoring, and report to the licensed nurse any occurrence of observed adverse effects/change in resident's condition.


5. Notify licensed nurse of observed changes in residents' conditions, medication errors, medication not available, and any other untoward observations.


6. Perform duties of Certified Nurse Aide as assigned.


7. Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident's needs and his/her comprehensive assessment as assigned.


8. Participate in Community education programs.


9. Promptly report observed changes in residents' conditions to the licensed nurse.


10. Respond to residents' call for assistance promptly.


11. Verify accuracy of narcotic count; check emergency kit and exchange keys.


12. Obtain in-service hours required.


13. Observe infection control procedures.


14. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.


15. Store medications accurately and appropriately, monitor drug expiration dates and follow process for destruction.


16. Follow the 5 Rights of medication administration


17. Timely and accurate documentation of medication administration


18. Follow process for notification of need to reorder medications


19. Follow process for notification unavailability of medication


20. Follow process for discontinued and expired medication


21. Follow regulations/guidelines for immediately reporting medication errors


22. Observe community process related to signing out narcotic and administration thereof. This includes the process related to shift narcotic count and documentation thereof.

Required Skills

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


Current and valid Texas Certified Medication Aide certificate required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:


High school diploma or GED required

The physical demands and work environment described herein is a representative of those that generally must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:


* This position primarily involves standing, walking, twisting, reaching, bending/stooping, pushing and pulling (typical weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 30 lbs., approximately), and lifting (minimum weight of 5 lbs. and maximum weight of 100 lbs., approximately).


* The position requires repetitive finger movements as well as hearing and talking on the phone and in person.


* Must be able to continuously deal effectively with stress created by residents, multiple tasks, noises, interruptions, and work cooperatively as part of the health care team while maintaining a pleasant attitude.
