Organizational Unit Overview
University Printing, Graphics & Mail Services is a self-supporting auxiliary established to provide quality printing and graphic services to the University community in an efficient and economical manner. It is one of the largest of the University of North Carolina's printing operations with a current annual budget of 2.3 million dollars. In addition to printing capabilities ranging from simple forms to four-color process catalogs and magazines, University Printing & Graphics offers presort and bulk mailing services as well as high-volume copying capabilities and a campus-wide copier management program through its subsidiary, ECU Copier Services.
University Printing, Graphics & Mail Services also provides a centralized mail service for the entire campus community which is state funded. This facility operates a campus mail service center, which processes all incoming and outgoing U.S., North Carolina State Courier, and ECU departmental mail. The mail center functions as the distribution point for all faculty, staff, and residential student mail. The university's United States Postal Service mail is distributed to all faculty and staff through the Mail Services standard routing system, and to resident students through the Neighborhood Service Offices at Gateway and West End Dining Hall. Mail Services provides a once-a-day delivery to all faculty & staff in more than 125 university departments.
Job Duties
The Accounting Manager is responsible for effectively maintaining two state budgets totaling 1.2 million dollars and an auxiliary budget of 2.3 million dollars. This position also provides leadership and direction for all accounting systems to include interdepartmental transfers, billing and collections, balancing bank accounts, reviewing maintenance contracts, etc. This position will use many different systems to include Banner Finance, PORT, ecuBIC, E Print, Xtender and Emburse Enterprise.

The Accounting Manager is responsible performing financial analysis, tracking and graphing monthly revenues and trends, and providing weekly reports on overall financial status of units of the department in order to recognize opportunities for growth and identify losses and deviations in normal operation. This position works closely with each departmental manager in providing such information as sales information, open accounts, profit and loss documents, inventory reports, and any other reports that a manager may request to help operate their department more profitably. Because University Printing & Graphics is an auxiliary, all general business practices are performed in a manner that works towards providing the greatest return for the University while still providing excellent customer service. This position helps to ensure that this goal is achieved. This position not only prepares monthly profit and loss documents but prepares year-end financial documents.

Position serves as the department auditor for all inventory, cash handling and daily transaction reconciliation. Responsible for all contract analysis and large dollar value purchases, leases, maintenance agreement and day to day purchases support. Position serves as the department Comptroller for complicated accounting problems and budget issue that are referred from unit supervisors for reconciliation. Maintain expenditure ledgers and payroll/time sheets for state and auxiliary budgets and prepare profits loss document for review by higher management.

The Accounting Manager assists in the establishment of new personnel positions using current State/University procedures.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification required by statute or regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Knowledge of all areas of printing and copy center management
  • Understanding of all fiscal and accounting technical operational processes, industry accounting trends, and growth areas
  • Familiarity with all University and State Regulations pertaining to the administrative and accounting functions of the department, including accounts payable/receivable, purchase and contracting
  • Knowledge of ECU Financial Reporting System (Banner), Emburse Enterprise, Kronos, Purchase Order System (PORT), and current software applications including Microsoft Office
  • Proficient computer skills including use of MS Excel, MS Word, and computerized accounting applications

License or Certification required by the Department
Valid NC Driver's license.
