PAY GRADE: 408

PAY RATE: $28.25-34.61

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.

JOB SUMMARY

The CIAC Grant Writer will work with the Tri County Development Director on dedicated development functions, including identifying, researching, pursuing, and securing potential grant opportunities available through businesses, community foundations and other private and family foundations.

He/she will develop proposals and letters of inquiries; ensure that the department meets grant deadlines; and will work in maintaining the donor database. Further, he/she will ensure that all communication, documentation and marketing materials are available for submission to foundations. They will also work in the preparation, editing and submission of grant proposals and progress reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




  • Develop plans for generating increased income through the grants area from a personal portfolio of Grants, and a department portfolio of Grants.
  • Develop effective fundraising strategies for appropriate individual and Department fundraising targets.
  • Devise annual and monthly work plans in support of the overall Department Goals.
  • Maintain and update reports for both personal and Department Goals.
  • Maintain a portfolio of the names of people working at foundations, who have the capacity to make major grants and gifts.



    • An effective relationship is maintained with members of the foundation community.


  • Keep the Director aware of both Department grant guidelines and deadlines, and guidelines and deadlines relating to those Grants under their individual stewardship.
  • Develop acknowledgement letters, pledge reminders, etc.
  • Research, compile and analyze demographic data as needed for grants.
  • Research local media and other publications, including Internet news, and note significant philanthropic activities.
  • Develop an understanding of programs and sites of the NCI CIAC Division through regular and ongoing interaction and relationships with Corps and program directors.
  • Maintain working knowledge of foundation and corporate guidelines.
  • Perform research to identify suitable funding prospects for an individual portfolio of cases, and those cases supported by others in the Department.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Education:

Bachelor's degree in human services, business management or related degree preferred; significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Three years of leadership experience within Community Relations is encouraged. The qualified candidate will also have experience in proposal development, managing donor records, and stewardship.

Experience:

Individuals must have multiple years of experience in grant writing, budgeting, project management, and contract compliance. This position must be able to provide credible guidance and tools regarding grants and contract compliance to staff of varying skills and abilities in a multi-site environment
