Purpose of Position Build or rebuild seats by replacing damaged frames and padding with fabrics. Tasks and Responsibilities Measure and cut fabric pieces with the aid of patterns or stencils and industrial cutting tools to precise sizes and dimensions. Apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler and cut fabric to framework. Attach finishes, including buttons, trim and other decorative accessories, to complete orders according to specifications. Operate portable hand-sewing equipment and other industrial equipment. Conduct routine maintenance of work tools and upholstery machine. Remove fasteners and strip upholstered seat down to its frame. Replace warn coverings and padding. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of upholstery techniques by monitoring the upholstery industry to identify trends. Minimum Education High School diploma. Vocational School or apprenticeship as an upholsterer preferred. Minimum Experience Four (4) years of experience Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to read blueprints. Working familiarity with sewing machines and other industry tools.
