We are currently seeking aSpecial Hazards Research Engineerto support and lead critical research initiatives focused on industrial fire suppression, particularly involving Lithium-Ion battery hazards and other specialized applications. This role will play a key part in developing new testing capabilities and supporting product validation efforts for high-risk, high-consequence environments.



Job Summary:

Hands-on engagement and coordination of large-scale testing to support research, consulting, product development, and application development objectives, primarily in the area of lithium ion battery fire hazards and protection systems. Utilizes sound experimental design and engineering principles to ensure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished in a safe and timely manner. Independently plans and schedules the required level of support according to project plans and according to completion schedules. Provides structured data, observations, results, reports and recommendations detailing performance of new concepts, products, processes, and applications for further analysis.



Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Develops technical requirements and planning for testing and research programs.
  2. Provides objective and independent evaluation and analysis of test results.
  3. Interfaces with internal and external customers in test planning and results interpretation
  4. Represents Fike interests in regulatory and industry standards committees as assigned.
  5. Presents updates and supports discussions on key test activities and findings.
  6. Manages test and research projects to ensure schedules and cost targets are met.
  7. Determines and obtains all necessary tooling, materials, hardware, and other items as required to support established test plans.
  8. Performs engineering calculations and assessment of test equipment for suitability and safety.
  9. Identifies data measurement requirements and coordinates data acquisition and instrumentation setup and calibration
  10. Leads and actively participates in test setup and execution.
  11. Understands and operates all related test equipment.
  12. Understands full range of current test capabilities and limitations.
  13. Maintains knowledge of new and emerging test capabilities and recommends changes.
  14. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Performs related duties as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Work Environment:

Work will be performed in an office environment or an industrial setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, see, sit, and use hands. Some travel domestically and internationally as required. Occasionally, the employee will be exposed to workplace hazards such as high pressures, high temperatures, electrical hazards, fumes, and chemicals. The noise level in the area is generally moderate with intermittent loud noises during testing. Proper PPE will need to be worn. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.



Job Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline. Eight years post degree experience in relevant design, testing, and analysis. Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, practices and theories.


Preferred: Master's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline. Experience working with battery technologies. Experience performing fire, explosion, or other industrial hazard modeling and testing. Experience with instrumentation and control.
