Purpose of Job This position is responsible for coordinating all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education and counseling of hospitalized patients and outpatients in a variety of settings. Job Functions
Evaluates, interprets, monitors and documents the nutritional status and nutritional needs of hospitalized patients and outpatients.
Provides nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with the patient's medical needs.
Consults with physicians and other care team members regarding patient nutritional care needs
Interprets nutrition assessment information to identify each patients nutritional requirements related to their age-specific needs.
Develops, reviews, updates and implements educational materials to meet the needs of patients, family members, community, and health care team.
Provides recommendations for enteral/parenteral nutrition needs and orders nutrition supplements to meet patients nutritional needs.
Precepts dietetic interns.
Educates inpatients and outpatients in one-on-one and group settings.
Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience b
- Current registration by the Commission of Dietetic Registration
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Advanced knowledge and background in nutrition and diet therapy for health and disease, human physiology and anatomy and basic pharmacology relative to age-specific criteria for pediatric, adolescent, adults and geriatric
Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
Ability to multitask and prioritize
Ability to work autonomously and as a team
Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
License/Certifications
- License Dietitian with the State of Minnesota and CDE Certification
