The Contractor and Construction H&S Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing health and safety programs related to construction projects and contractor activities across the organization. This role ensures compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation, corporate policies, and industry best practices. The position plays a key role in supporting project teams, contractors, and business units to maintain a safe work environment and foster a strong safety culture. This role requires close collaboration with theManufacturing and Launch teamsto ensure safety is integrated into all phases of project planning, execution, and operational readiness. Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Implementation
- Develop, implement, and maintain corporate H&S programs specific to construction and contractor management.
- Ensure alignment with corporate safety objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Contractor Safety Management
- Lead the contractor prequalification process, including safety performance evaluations.
- Review and approve contractor safety plans and risk assessments.
- Conduct onboarding and orientation for contractors and subcontractors.
- Construction Site Oversight
- Perform regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Support project managers and site supervisors in identifying and mitigating hazards.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns; recommend corrective actions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely withManufacturing and Launch teamsto align safety protocols with operational needs and timelines.
- Participate in project planning meetings to identify safety risks and mitigation strategies early in the process.
- Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to internal teams and contractors.
- Promote awareness of safety policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Stay current with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations (e.g., OHSA, WSIB).
- Ensure all documentation and reporting requirements are met.
- Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Facilities, Legal, and Procurement.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Corporate H&S leadership team.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety practices and culture.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
- In-depth knowledge of Federal, State, Provincial, and Local health and safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable Canadian standards (e.g., OHSA, WSIB)
- Demonstrated experience managing contractor safety programs and construction site safety in an industrial or manufacturing setting
- Ability to work flexible hours, including different shifts and extended hours as needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse teams
- Proven leadership, analytical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in contractor safety management, construction safety, or industrial safety within a manufacturing or automotive environment
- Construction-specific safety certifications, such as:
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional), or CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant)
- Master's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline
- Familiarity with construction project lifecycle and contractor onboarding processes
